The Fulford Battlefield project was a collective effort by the local and the academic community to locate the site of the battle in 1066.

The work began slowly when various peolpe got togetehr in 1999 but really got going with the backing of York Archeological Trust and a grant from the Lottery Fund.

The final report is due to be published in September 2010. It will set out a strong evidential basis for identifying the site of this neglected, but important battle.

The site also covers the threat to the whole site from a planned housing development. Permission has been granted to build over the whole of the site.
