The metal detecting coverage was extensive.  However, no access was allowed to the north of the beck by the developers.

We were fortunate to have obtained permission and undertaken the work where most of the metal recycling material was recovered before it was brought within the ‘red line’  around 2004.[1]

In addition to the main surveys, there were many sampling surveys and several areas were selected for the project by experts to identify the ‘background’ level of finds we might expect. Below, red areas were systematically surveyed, green zones are suitable for survey but permission not given.

There is a site devoted to saving the battlesite: The site has the story of the process that has allowed the site to be designated an access road to a Green Belt, floodplain housing estate.

And another website for the Fulford Tapestry that tells the story of the September 1066: This tells the story embroidered into the panels.
